EC: Probe into release of union minister's brother

Patna: The Election Commission has ordered a probe taking serious note of the release of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Vijay Prakash, after he was booked under non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.

Prakash is the brother of Union Minister Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav's brother

Adhering to the EC's order for a probe, Additional Director General of Police Manoj Nath would inquire into the circumstances leading to the release of Prakash who was arrested during yesterday's poll, State police chief Ashish Ranjan Sinha told sources.

Prakash was released on PR bond by the officer-in-charge of Khaira police station in Jamui district

The Jamui police superintendent Arvind Kumar has suspended the officer in-charge of Khaira police station Mukteshwar Prasad for releasing the RJD candidate barely hours after he was arrested.

Only a court was competent to release Vijay Prakash. Prakash was arrested for going around with his men carrying weapons, Rs 6.68 lakh in cash and 50 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor.

The cash and liquor was meant for distribution among the voters the SP said.

The state police chief said, "I have entrusted ADG Manoj Nath to visit Jamui and probe the entire episode leading to Prakash's release and he has been asked to submit a report to me by 5:00 pm tomorrow to enable me to submit my report to the EC."
