Several moderate intensity aftershocks rattle J&K Wednesday, October 19 2005 13:01 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Srinagar:
Residents of Jammu and Kashmir spent a sleepless night as a series of moderate intensity aftershocks jolted the region early today (Oct 19, 2005), in a chilling reminder of the October 8 killer quake.
Four tremors rattled the state but no casualty or damage to property was reported so far.
While the first quake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale, was experienced at two minutes past midnight IST, the second tremor of the same intensity occurred at 2.34 AM, the Indian Meteorological Department said today.
The epicenter of the tremors lay in northern parts of Pakistan near its border with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, it added.
The third aftershock jolted the state at 8.04 AM and measured 5.3 on the Richter Scale
Another quake hit the region at 8.45 AM.
The aftershocks led to a wave of panic among quake survivors who are living in the constant shadow of death since the devastating 7.6 magnitude quake, which claimed thousands of lives in India and Pakistan.
