Govinda tape: Cops say its too early to comment Thursday, October 20 2005 18:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Mumbai police today (Oct 20, 2005) said they will have to examine the video aired by a TV channel showing film star Govinda mingling up with fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim, to decide whether it amounted to any offence.
Senior Crime Branch officials were tight-lipped on the issue and said that it will be discussed with top officials before they decided whether to call the film star to record his statement.
"The video is quite old and we will have to examine the entire content of the tape," a Crime Branch official said, adding that any premature action could lead to a fiasco similar to the Salman-Aishwarya tape issue.
The Maharashtra Government had ordered an inquiry into the alleged conversation between film stars Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai, published by a newspaper, which showed Salman flaunting his underworld connections.
A scientific test performed to check authenticity of the tape revealed that the voices in the tape did not match with the voice samples of the two stars collected by cops after the tape was bared.
