SC to be approached on NTC mill sale issue: Vaghela
Thursday, October 20 2005 17:27 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Ahmedabad: Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela today (Oct 20, 2005) said an appeal would be filed in the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court's recent order on the sale of surplus mill lands of National Textile Corporation (NTC).

"We are going to appeal in the Supreme Court against the stand taken by the High Court in the sale of mill land in Mumbai," Vaghela told reporters here.

By dividing the land into three parts as ordered by Mumbai High Court, there would be little land left for commercial development.

"NTC was trying to pay off its workers by selling the mill lands which was in accordance with BIFR (Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction) norms," Vaghela said.

Vaghela said that one-third of the total mill land in Mumbai has already been allocated for slum development and now dividing it again would leave little space for commercial development.

"If the Supreme Court upholds the High Court order then we have no option but to go by it,'' he said.
