Four arrested in Mau, curfew relaxed for women
Friday, October 21 2005 14:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mau (UP): Four persons trying to spell trouble were arrested in this riot-torn town, where curfew continued into the seventh day today (Oct 21, 2005) even as district authorities described the situation as 'near normal'.

There was however relaxation in curfew for women and children in the day to help them collect essential commodities being distributed in the areas which had witnessed communal violence, official sources said.

There was a minor incident late last night with some youth trying to create disturbance in Kasimpura locality but the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) acted promptly and arrested four of them, sources said.

"The situation is now almost normal", District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram said.

Security forces were continuing round the clock vigil in all the sensitive areas and efforts were on to identify the real culprits of the clashes, sources added.

Cases have already been registered against over 500 people including independent MLA, Mukhtar Ansari and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of Legislative Council Ramji Singh for inciting the riots that erupted in the town over Dussehra celebrations and has claimed nine lives thus far.
