'Bihar poll outcome to decide UPA Govt's fate too'
Saturday, October 22 2005 09:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: Claiming that Janata Dal (JD) United (U) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine would get majority and former Railway Minister Nitish Kumar would lead the Government, the BJP yesterday (Oct 21, 2005) said the Bihar poll outcome would also decide the fate of present United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Center.

Spotlight: Bihar Elections

"The victory of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alliance in the polls in Bihar are certain and Nitish Kumar will head the Government in the state ending the jungle raj of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)", the BJP vice president Venkaiah Naidu told reporters.

He said "RJD chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad would not be happy sitting in the opposition and he would make the UPA Government restless. There will be uneasiness in the UPA Government. And from UPA it would become Divided Progressive Alliance", Naidu said.

He criticized the Left Parties support to the UPA Government when it had differences on several economic and other issues.

"Except blind anti-BJPism, nothing was common so far between the Congress-led UPA Government and the Left parties. The Left support to the Government was prompted by the compulsions to keep BJP out of power", he said.

The relationship between Left parties and the UPA Government would sour prior to the assembly elections in West Bengal and Kerala, he claimed.

He said Election Commission was doing a good job in Bihar and RJD were "rattled" by its strict enforcement of Model Code of Conduct.

Responding to a question, he said, "Trinamool Congress is a force to reckon with. We have good relations with Trinamool Congress".
