Bush calls for UN's instant action on Hariri report Saturday, October 22 2005 11:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Washington:
Terming as 'deeply disturbing' the UN report which suggests Syria's involvement in the assassination of former Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri, US President George W Bush has urged the world body to take immediate action.
"The Mehlis Report into the death of Prime Minister Hariri of Lebanon is deeply disturbing. The report strongly suggests that the politically motivated assassination could not have taken place without Syrian involvement," Bush told reporters yesterday (Oct 21, 2005).
Bush said that he had instructed US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to ask the United Nations to convene a session as quickly as possible to deal with this 'very serious matter.'
"We have made it clear that the position of the United States is that there be no foreign involvement in Lebanon," he said adding that the world needed to look at the report 'very carefully and respond accordingly.'
