Cong MLAs in Kashmir will not resign: Ambika Soni Wednesday, October 26 2005 16:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Congress today (Oct 26, 2005) dismissed reports that party MLAs from Jammu and Kashmir had tendered their resignations in a bid to pressurise the leadership to ensure transfer of power in the state.
"The question does not arise. Our MLAs may be having very strong views, but they will not do any such thing," Party General Secretary Ambika Soni told sources here amid speculation that all the 19 party legislators had tendered their resignations.
J and K Pradesh Congress President Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed expressed ignorance about any such development. "I am not aware," he said.
The issue of transfer of power had been left to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Peerzada Sayeed said expressing confidence that she would take a decision in the interest of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and the nation.
Asked whether the state Congress wanted a Chief Minister from Kashmir valley only, Sayeed said, "for us Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are one. We are not a regional party but a national party". Hectic parleys are underway to decide whether the Congress would implement its agreement with ally PDP and take the baton of Chief Ministership from Mufti Sayeed on November two.
