Mettur dam water overflows, flood warning issued Wednesday, October 26 2005 17:06 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

With increase in inflow and consequent outflow from the Mettur reservoir, the state administration on Monday (Oct 24, 2005) issued a flood warning in eleven districts located on the banks of Cauvery river in the state.
Due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of the Cauvery, inflow into Stanley reservoir at Mettur in Salem District had increased to 97,860 cusecs.
With rains continuing, the inflow was likely to increase, the official sources said.
Water level in the Mettur dam has crossed its full level mark of 120 ft and stood at 121 feet, the sources added.
The outflows from the dam was 43,240 cusecs. It would be stepped up slowly.
With increase in outflow, the people in the low lying areas and those living near the banks of the river have been asked to move to safer places.
The authorities had instructed the district administrations in the eleven districts to evacuate people from the low-lying areas.
