New Delhi:
The Left parties and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) met here today (Oct 27, 2005) and took up discussions on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector and India's policy towards Iran.
The Left parties, which resumed participation in the Coordination Committee meeting with UPA after four months, had also demanded tabling of women's reservation bill and the Scheduled Tribes Bill in the Winter Session of Parliament.
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Politburo member Sitaram Yechuri, who left the meeting early to catch a flight, told reporters that discussions would continue on the foreign policy issues in detail after External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh returns from abroad.
On foreign direct investment in retail sector, he said the Government informed the Left leaders that it had not taken any decision in this regard and would continue discussions on the matter with them.
