Punjab doing its bit for the quake-hit: Amarinder Thursday, October 27 2005 11:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Srinagar:
Dismissing allegations that the Sikh community had been ignored during relief distribution in quake-affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today (Oct 27, 2005) said in a natural calamity of this magnitude, no one discriminates between communities.
"The tragedy that struck J & K was of such magnitude that it was not possible to reach all the villages immediately. There are still some areas which are cut off," Singh told reporters after taking part in Infantry Day celebrations here.
Singh, who met his counterpart Mufti Mohd Sayeed in Srinagar yesterday (Oct 26, 2005) evening, said his administration had provided whatever relief material was sought by the affected state.
He said Punjab Government had adopted three villages as per the directions of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, which will be rehabilitated and reconstructed, with the help of army.
