Srinagar: A major tragedy was averted today (Oct 28, 2005) with the timely detection of an IED near the official residence of Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court in the high security Sonawar area of the city, official sources said.

A road opening party of 60 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) detected the IED at around 9.20 a.M. And sealed-off the road and summoned the bomb disposal squad of state Police, the sources said.

It took about an hour for the bomb disposal squad to defuse the IED, the sources said.

The residence of the Chief Justice is barely a few meters away from the Ram Munshi Bagh police station and opposite the Sonawar guesthouse and circuit house where senior ministers and bureaucrats reside, the sources said.
