India-Pak to hold talks on opening points along LoC Friday, October 28 2005 19:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Adopting a humanitarian approach following the devastating earthquake, India and Pakistan would hold talks here tomorrow (Oct 29, 2005) on opening some points and relief camps along the LoC and finalising modalities to permit Kashmiris on both sides to meet each other.
The one-day talks tomorrow would "decide the modalities for Kashmiris to cross the LoC to meet each other", Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam told reporters here today (Oct 28, 2005).
Dilip Sinha, Joint Secretary in External Affairs Ministry, would hold talks with Ibne Abbas, Director General of South Asia Division in Pakistan Foreign Office, to reach an agreement on proposals by India and Pakistan to permit visits of Kashmiris on both sides and enable them to avail services of relief camps being set up along the LoC.
Sinha would be leading a six-member delegation while Pakistani side would include officials from ministries of Defence and Interior, officials here said.
He is expected to hold informal talks with Pakistani officials tonight after his arrival.
Aslam also thanked India for pledging the 25-million-dollar assistance at the UN Conference for the earthquake victims in Geneva yesterday.
India has proposed to open relief camps at three points; Aman Setu in Uri, Teetwal in Tangdhar and Chakan Da Bagh in Poonch on the LoC where quake victims from Pakistan- occupied Kashmir could come over and avail medical treatment and relief material. Pakistan has suggested five locations along the LoC.
