Peoples' League severs ties with Hurriyat Conference
Friday, October 28 2005 14:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Srinagar: The hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani suffered yet another jolt today (Oct 28, 2005) when the Peoples' League announced disassociation from it.

The decision to severe ties with hardline faction of Hurriyat was taken unanimously at a meeting of the Peoples' League here yesterday (Oct 27, 2005), a spokesman of the party told sources today indicating that they would join hands with the moderate faction of Hurriyat led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq.

Peoples league led by Sheikh Abdul Aziz, who was arrested two years ago on Hawala charges, is the fourth organization after Jammu and Kashmir National Front, Peoples' Conference and Anjuman-e-Sharie Shain to leave the Geelani faction since July this year.

The spokesman of the League said the party was in favor of a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue and would continue to struggle for it peacefully.
