PM to visit Tripura tomorrow, security beefed up

Agartala: Security has been beefed up in Tripura in view of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the state tomorrow (Oct 29, 2005).

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya will receive the PM at airport here at around 11:30 a.m.

From the airport the PM, along with Sarkar and Sahaya, will fly to Palatana in South Tripura district to lay the foundation stone for the proposed 750 MW gas based thermal project being set up by ONGC at a cost of Rs 5,200 crore.

After laying the foundation stone at Palatana, Singh will fly back to Agartala and after lunch at the Rajbhavan he will lay the foundation stone of a new building complex for the Agartala Government Medical College.

Later, the Prime Minister will meet the council of ministers of Tripura and representatives of different political parties of the state and in the evening will leave for Kolkata.

All the police stations in the state were put on alert and security tightened along the 856-km long international border with Bangladesh to thwart any attempt of subversive activities during the PM's visit.
