AP: Life affected as depression crosses AP coast

Hyderabad: Ten people were killed and normal life was thrown out of gear in several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh as a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast yesterday (Oct 28, 2005) triggering heavy rains.

Seven persons were killed in the worst-affected Nellore district and three others in house collapse in Chittoor district even as the authorities evacuated about 20,000 people from low-lying areas in coastal region, official sources said here.

The deep depression, which lay centred about 100 kms off Ongole in Prakasam district, hit the coast between Ongole and Bapatla bringing in its wake heavy rains in south coastal belt.
