Israel to use int'l approval on Iran's issue to UNSC
Saturday, October 29 2005 18:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Jerusalem: Post-disengagement, Israel will try to encash on its increased international approval to refer discussion on Iran's nuclear programme to the United Nations Security Council, Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said.

"The unprecedented international approval of Israel will be used to make sure that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) make an important decision to refer the issue (of Iran's nuclear program) to the Security Council," Shalom was quoted as saying in Paris by Ha'aretz daily.

Shalom's comments came a day after Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said he stood by a statement made earlier that Israel should be 'wiped off the map.'

Israel has launched a diplomatic offensive against Iran calling it 'the number one enemy'.

"The Iranian regime is dangerous because their violent words are immediately implemented into violent actions which we can see in the attacks perpetrated by Islamic Jihad (militant group) a day after Iranian President's remarks," Foreign Ministry spokesman Yariv Ovadia told sources.
