Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who will be replaced by Ghulam Nabi Azad on November 2, on Saturday (Oct 29, 2005) resigned from the post.
Sayeed met state Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha at the Raj Bhawan here and submitted his resignation. The move comes after Congress High Command nominated Azad as Chief Minister for the party's three-year turn to head the coalition Government.
The Governor has asked Sayeed to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister till new arrangements are made, he added.
Sayeed will be caretaker Chief Minister till November 2.
Under the power sharing agreement reached between the two parties soon after the 2002 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir threw a hung House, each party would rule the state for three years.
Both the Congress and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) agreed to hold the post of Chief Minister on a three-year rotational basis.
