PDP meet to discuss over power transfer to Cong Saturday, October 29 2005 15:16 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Srinagar:
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) will hold a legislature party meeting tomorrow (Oct 30, 2005) to discuss various issues, including candidate for the Deputy Chief Minister's post, relating to the transfer of power to Congress on Nov 2.
"The legislature party meeting will be held tomorrow to discuss various issues," Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who resigned as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister today (Oct 29, 2005), told reporters at Raj Bhavan here.
Replying to a question, Sayeed, who pledged full support to the new dispensation to be led by Ghulam Nabi Azad, said the issue of Dy CM would be decided tomorrow.
Although many names are doing the rounds, PDP sources said party President Mehbooba Mufti, who is a Lok Sabha MP, is likely to return to state politics as Dy CM.
They said Mehbooba was emerging as a consensus candidate for the post, but she was not 'personally inclined to return to state politics as yet'.
Mehbooba had herself named senior ministers in the coalition Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Ghulam Hassan Mir and Abdul Aziz Zargar as prospective candidates for the post.
After the Congress-PDP victory in the 2002 Assembly elections, Sayeed had ruled himself out of contention for the Chief Ministership and recommended the names of his daughter Mehbooba, Baig and Mir as good candidates.
