Leela, famous playback singer-musician passes away

Chennai: P Leela, renowned playback singer and Carnatic musician of yesteryears, who enthralled people with her melodious voice, died early this morning (Oct 31, 2005) at a private hospital here after a brief illness.

She was 76. Her funeral will take place this evening, family sources said.

Her husband had predeceased her and she had no issues. She had adopted her sister's daughter.

Leela, who had lent her voice for many actresses like Padmini, had sung over 1,500 songs, many of them hits.
