IMF chief condemns serial bomb attacks in Delhi Tuesday, November 1 2005 10:42 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Washington:
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has condemned the serial bomb attacks in Delhi and said the weekend blasts were a reminder to the international community that terrorism remains a threat.
Offering deepest condolences to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and to the people of India, IMF Managing Director Rodrigo Rato said, "Our sympathies are with the families of those innocent people who lost their lives in the tragedy."
"The attack is a reminder to the international community that terrorism remains a threat", he said yesterday (Oct 31, 2005) and stressed that IMF will continue to do its part in the effort to counter terrorism.
Meanwhile, London Mayor Ken Livingstone has extended all possible help to the victims of the blasts and expressed his condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims.
"All Londoners were shocked and saddened by these horrific attacks, so close to the celebrations of Diwali and Eid," the Mayor said in a statement last night.
He said London's Indian community will want to support the people of Delhi at this time and indeed many of them will have family and friends who have been directly affected.
"I will encourage all Londoners to contribute to their efforts in any way then can." London, which was the target of terrorist attacks in July, has close links with Delhi with which it has a twin-city agreement.
