Pak ready to join Delhi blasts probe: Musharraf

Rawalpindi: Condemning as 'dastardly the serial blasts in Delhi, President Pervez Musharraf yesterday (Oct 31, 2005) said Pakistan was ready to join India in the probe into the attack and assured action on its findings.

"We would like to join the investigation with India in investigating this crime," he said in response to a query that regarding reports citing involvement of some Pakistan-based militant organizations in the Delhi blasts on Saturday that left 59 people dead.

"Pakistan would act on the results of the probe," Musharraf told senior editors and foreign correspondents at his Army House residence here.

Offering 'total and unequivocal support' for any probe into the role of Pak-based militant groups in the blasts, he said the attacks "Will not have any impact on the peace talks and on Indo-Pak relations. They should not have any impact."

Extending condolences to the next of kin of the victims of the blasts, he said, "Pakistan stands with India on this act of terrorism which has been perpetuated in New Delhi."

Musharraf began the two-hour press conference with a statement saying that, "I would like to condole with the Indian government, the loss of lives because of the terrible and most dastardly terrorist attack in Delhi. I would like to give a total and unequivocal support from Pakistan in any investigation that Indians would like to carry out."

Minutes after the press-meet Mushrraf spoke by the phone to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who told him that the country was outraged at these heinous acts of terrorism.

Singh told Musharraf that, "India expects Pakistan to act against terrorism directed against India."
