Congress to issue legal notice to UN, Volcker panel Friday, November 4 2005 09:09 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Going on the offensive, Congress yesterday (Nov 03, 2005) decided to issue a comprehensive legal notice to the U N and the Volcker Committee demanding full disclosure of the material on the basis of which the inquiry committee reached the 'unverified conclusion' that the party is a beneficiary in the Iraqi oil deal scam.
"Failing disclosure of the relevant material, the Congress party demands an unconditional apology for wrongly and maliciously making a reference to it", the All India Congress Committee said in a press release.
The release, however, makes no mention of External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh who has also been named in the Volcker committee report.
The release was issued shortly after Government hinted at a probe into the Volcker Committee findings on a day when Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) stepped up its attack and demanded the immediate dismissal of the External Affairs Minister, registration of a criminal case and a thorough investigation into it.
