Seeking to remove farm sector from the purview of WTO, Bhartiya Kisan Union would hold a rally in New Delhi and submit a memorandum signed by 10 lakh farmers to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on November 18.
A deputation of farmers led by Chaudhary Mohinder Singh Tikait will submit the memorandum to the Prime Minister signed by atleast 10 lakh farmers from across the country, Yudhvir Singh Chaudhary, Coordinator All India BKU said here today (Nov 5, 2005).
Ajmer Singh Lakhowal and Manjit Singh Kadian, president and secretary general respectively of the Punjab State BKU Lakhowal were also present at the press conference.
The proposed rally and dharna by the farmers aim to bring to the notice of the Central Government the adverse effects of the WTO regime to the farming community in India and other developing countries.
The farmers want agriculture sector to be removed from the purview of WTO, they added.
