Moderate intensity quake measuring 5.4 in Sumatra

New Delhi: An earthquake of moderate intensity rattled the Indonesian island of Sumatra late last night (Nov 04, 2005), the Meteorological Department said today (Nov 05, 2005).

Spotlight: Tidal Waves hit South Asia

The temblor, measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale and epicentered off the west coast of northern Sumatra at 1.7 degree north latitude and 96.7 degree East longitude, struck at 2314 hrs yesterday, it said.

However, no damage or casualties have been reported so far.
