Hyderabad: The Centre is formulating a new National Police Act to meet the changing requirements of the society, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said today (Nov 05, 2005).

"A committee appointed by the government to prepare a draft police act will submit its report very soon," Patil told reporters after reviewing the passing out parade of 57th batch of IPS probationers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy here.

The new act would take into consideration the recommendations made by the commissions in the past and also report of the law commission, the minister said.

"We will also consult the states in this regard. The new act will cover several emerging areas to meet the present day requirements," he said.
