DMK defends Congress and Natwar, attacks BJP
Sunday, November 6 2005 14:44 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: Reacting for the first time on the issues arising out of the Volcker committee report, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) today (Nov 6, 2005) defended External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh and the Congress party, and attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for demanding Singh's resignation.

"The demand for resignation shows that instead of wanting to find the truth behind the charge, which is yet to be inquired into and proved, politically experienced persons like former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and BJP president L K Advani, using the charges, are showing a feeling of vengeance", DMK President M Karunanidhi alleged.

He said after the poll debacle, the BJP, right from the day when Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government (UPA) at the centre assumed office, were 'impatient' and were demanding the resignation of one leader or the other and creating 'confusion'.

"It is disappointing to people like me, who expected healthy politics from them as they claim they BJP are intellectuals", he said in a release.

He said during then National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule there were several scams like Tehelka, coffin scandal and Centaur hotel sale, which they were 'conveniently forgetting' now and asking for the resignation of ministers. "This is not acceptable to me".

Without the truth being found, demanding resignation could not be accepted by any neutral persons.

"When in a parliamentary democracy, there is a path to debate to take a decision, BJP is following a short cut path, which cannot be appreciated", he said.
