Volcker report: Natwar Singh meets Manmohan Singh
Sunday, November 6 2005 18:14 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh today (Nov 6, 2005) met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the disclosures in the UN-sponsored Volcker Committee report, which has named him among the beneficiaries of Iraqi oil pay-offs.

Singh drove to the PM's residence soon after a meeting of the high-powered core group of Union ministers, chaired by the PM, which was also attended by Sonia Gandhi.

The Prime Minister had yesterday held crucial meetings with Sonia Gandhi and senior ministers like P Chidambaram and Kapil Sibal and discussed with them the mode of the probe into the allegations contained in the Volcker Committee report.

"The Prime Minister wants a totally transparent inquiry as the people of the country will have to be convinced", PM's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru had told reporters when asked about the PMO announcement that the Government was determined to get to the root of the matter.

There would be an inquiry, he had said.
