RJD MP Shahabuddin taken to Kotawli police station Monday, November 7 2005 11:23 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammed Shahabuddin, who was brought to Bihar after his arrest in New Delhi following rejection of his bail plea by a metropolitan magistrate, would be produced before a district court in Siwan tomorrow (Nov 8, 2005) in connection with eight criminal cases against him.
Shahabuddin, who was earlier supposed to be taken to a guest-house upon arrival, would now be kept at Kotwali police station where adequate security arrangements had been made for his stay during the night, state Director General of Police Ashis Ranjan Sinha told PTI.
"He would be taken to Siwan by road tomorrow morning under heavy escorts," the DGP said.
The arrested MP would be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Siwan, in connection with the cases against him and in the event of Shahabuddin being remanded to judicial custody after production before the Siwan court, he would be taken to Bhagalpur to be lodged in central jail, he said.
Earlier, Shahabuddin was brought here by a service flight, which was delayed at the airport in New Delhi for reportedly completing some legal formalities.
On his arrival he was taken to Kotwali in a bullet-proof vehicle escorted by a posse of security men, including commandos of Special Task force.
Hundreds of his supporters had assembled at the airport and shouted slogans against the State Administration and Election Commission Advisor K J Rao alleging that they had implicated Shahabuddin in, what the supporters termed, 'false and fictitious cases'.
