RJD MP Md Shahabuddin flown to Siwan for trail Monday, November 7 2005 15:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, who was kept in police custody at Kotwali police station here, was flown to Siwan today (Nov 7, 2005) morning for production before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in connection with eight criminal cases against him.
Shahabuddin was taken to Siwan by a chopper with STF commandos. He would be flown back here and then taken to Bhagalpur where he would be kept in the Central Jail, Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha told sources.
The RJD MP, who was arrested from his official residence in New Delhi on Saturday following non-bailable warrants issued against him in the eight cases, was brought here by police, on a transit remand, from the capital by a flight under tight security last night and was whisked away to the Kotwali thana amid vociferous condemnation by a motley group of RJD supporters who raised slogans against the state and district administration.
Official sources said the Siwan administration had requested to Chief Secretary G S Kang, Home Secretary H C Sirohi and Director General of Police that the MP should not
be kept in Siwan at any cost and be immediately flown back here after he produced before the court as his stay in Siwan would be 'detrimental to poll exercise.'
The Assembly election in Siwan is slated for November 19.
Siwan District Magistrate S K Mal had extended Shahabuddin from the district limits till December 20 under the Control of Crime Act (CCA).
