It will be an independent inquiry: R S Pathak Monday, November 7 2005 14:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The one man Judicial Commission appointed by the Government to go into the Volcker Committee report, would 'independently' inquire into the allegations implicating External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh and the Congress Party as beneficiaries of Iraqi oil pay-offs.
"My job is to find the truth. it would be an independent probe and there was no time frame for it", former Chief Justice of India R S Pathak told a news channel shortly
after being named to head the probe today (Nov 7, 2005).
"This will be a one man commission to probe into the entire findings of Volcker report," he said adding that the terms of reference of the Commission were yet to be finalised.
"We have discussed it generally but it has not been finalised yet," he said adding that the findings of the Commission would be submitted to the Government.
Asked if the Commission would restrict its probe only in India or would it also extend beyond, he said, "We will have to consider all the legalities."
Justice Pathak said till the final terms of reference had been set it would be too early for him to comment on how exactly the probe would be conducted.
