Iran protests against illegal US flights in its land Tuesday, November 8 2005 14:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
United Nations:
Iran has complained to the United Nations over two 'illegal' flights by unmanned American aircraft, which crashed in its territory.
Iran's deputy UN Ambassador Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi asked the UN Security Council to circulate two letters protesting, "the violation of the territory and airspace of Iran by two American unmanned aircrafts".
The letters circulated yesterday warned, "the Government of the United States of America will be responsible for the consequences of any recurrence of its unlawful acts". According to the letters, during illegal over flights an American Shadow-200 (RQ-7) aircraft crashed 60 kms inside Iranian territory in Ilam province on July 4, and an American Hermes aircraft crashed 200 kms inside Iranian territory in the Khoram Abad area on Aug, 25.
"The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly protests against such unlawful acts and emphasizes the necessity to observe the principles of international law concerning the sanctity of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and calls for an end to such unlawful acts," the letters said.
