Volcker issue: NDA demands resignation of PM, Sonia Tuesday, November 8 2005 17:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) today (Nov 08, 2005) stepped up its attack on the Congress and the government on the Volcker report bringing Sonia Gandhi in its line of fire and demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should resign.
"We demand that the Prime Minister either set matters right in accordance with his principles and status or else resign with his cabinet before the people bring this government down", NDA Convenor and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) President George Fernandes told reporters.
He said it was evident that the Volcker Report was a national 'shame' and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has no moral authority to continue to lead the very people they have 'defrauded'.
Demanding Gandhi's resignation as Chairperson of the National Advisory Council of the UPA's Common Minimum Programme (CMP), the NDA Convenor said "If Natwar Singh deserved to be deprived of his portfolio, surely, Sonia Gandhi cannot hold on to her responsibilities currently supported by the Public Exchequer".
