ADB to rework funding plans for quake-hit Pakistan
Wednesday, November 9 2005 16:43 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Asian Development Bank today (Nov 09, 2005) said it may have to rework funding of some of the projects in Pakistan after the devastating earthquake but the bank-funded projects in Jammu and Kashmir taken up in 2004 were progressing smoothly.

"We have some project in Jammu and Kashmir which are progressing smoothly. However, the projects in Pakistan suffered. We are reconsidering the scope of the project," ADB Vice-President Liqun Jin told sources here today.

ADB committed 56 million dollars for the project in Pakistan.

Some of the projects that were affected were near the Line of Control in the Pakistan side, he said without giving further details.

On the other hand, the projects in Jammu and Srinagar are on track, Liqun said.

ADB provided 150 million dollars for water supply, roads and bridges projects in December 2004.

Liqun said he has not yet received any request from Indian government for funding the reconstruction work in quake affected Jammu and Kashmir.

ADB had provided a grant of 100 million dollars for Tsunami-affected areas of India last year.

Earlier, the Manila-based bank had provided special assistance to India during the Bhuj earthquake.
