Second LoC point opened in J&K for quake-relief Wednesday, November 9 2005 19:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kaman Post (LoC):
India and Pakistan today (Nov 09, 2005) opened the second point along the Line of Control between Kaman post and Chakoti in Uri and exchanged relief material for the quake-affected people in both parts of Kashmir.
In sharp contrast to the November 7 inauguration of the Chakan-da-Bagh point in Poonch, it was a low-key affair sans the unmanageable crowds, emotional outbursts and scenes of army officials exchanging flags and hugging each other.
There were no welcome banners on either side, as army and civil officers, after a brief cordial exchange allowed the porters, carrying relief material cross the LoC.
"It is a good beginning and the process will continue", Relief Camp Commander of PoK Shafiq Ahmad Keyani and Bashir Ahmad Runiyhal, Relief Commissnner of Uri said.
The camp was set up under the Aman setu that connects the two sides. As a pier of the bridge on the Pakistani side, which was damaged in the October 8, is yet to be repaired, the porters had to carry the relief on their shoulders.
The relief material was taken by Pakistani porters on their shoulders to their side as a portion of four-km road stretch from Kaman post to Chakoti has not yet been restored.
The exchange of relief continued for four hours. No crossing over by people took place.
