Volcker report 'one-sided' to help forces: CPI
Wednesday, November 9 2005 20:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Supporting Government's move to institute an inquiry into the charges in the Volcker report on the oil-for-food scam in Iraq, Communist Party of India (CPI) today (Nov 09, 2005) said the report was 'one-sided' and was meant to help certain forces.

"Dall mein kuchh kala hai (there is something fishy) when (former External Affairs Minister) Natwar Singh said he had not been contacted by the Volcker panel, they (Volcker) said everyone named had been contacted. But now they say some people were left out", CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta told sources.

Replying to questions, he said the CPI had all along been favouring an independent inquiry.

"What the Prime Minister has done is the right thing. For any inquiry to be independent, it is right that he (Natwar Singh) goes out of the Ministry. Whether the charges against him are true or not can be decided only after this independent probe", Dasgupta said.
