HC notices Sonia, Congress on foreign origin issue
Thursday, November 10 2005 14:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today (Nov 10, 2005) issued notices to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the party on a PIL challenging her holding of any post, including that of party chief, in view of her foreign origin.

A Division Bench of Vijayendra Jain and Rekha Sharma asked Gandhi, All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Election Commission and the Centre to file their replies by December 14 as to why they should not be impleaded as respondents in the petition.

The PIL, filed in 1999, by Rashtriya Mukti Morcha, an NGO, also seeks de-recognisation of the Congress as long as Sonia Gandhi is its chief.
