Top Jordanian official says Zarqawi likely suspect Thursday, November 10 2005 11:36 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Washington:
Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister Marwan Moasher today (Nov 10, 2005) said he was 'positive' that Al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was a 'prime suspect' in the deadly hotel bombings in Amman.
"Al-Qaeda and Abu al-Zarqawi were certainly involved in the rocket attacks in Aqaba a few months ago, and, you know, I'm positive he's a prime suspect in this case as well, but I cannot tell for sure," Moasher told CNN.
Jordanian authorities have blamed Zarqawi's Al-Qaeda group for this August's rocket attack targeting US warships in the Red Sea port of Aqaba.
Zarqawi, who is Jordanian, has been condemned to death in absentia in Jordan for the 2002 murder of a US diplomat in Amman. He is Iraq's most wanted man and has a $25-million US bounty on his head.
