BJP to demand assembly poll in WB under prez rule Friday, November 11 2005 18:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
Encouraged by the peaceful election under President's rule in neighbouring Bihar, the BJP today (November 11, 2005) said its leadership would shortly meet the President to demand holding of next year's assembly poll in West Bengal under central rule.
With the assembly elections in Bihar being held in a 'peaceful and fair manner'under President's Rule, the BJP will demand holding of the assembly poll in West Bengal too under central rule as "We feel free and fair poll in the state will not be possible with the CPI(M)-led Left Front in power," state BJP general secretary Rahul Sinha said here.
A party delegation would shortly meet President A P J Abdul Kalam and the Election Commission to air its demand, Sinha said.
A strategy for the assembly poll would be worked out at a two-day party state committee meeting beginning tomorrow at Malda in north Bengal where central observer Rajnath Singh would be present, he said.
The BJP leader also demanded that the Election Commission should direct all district magistrates and SPs to publish a list of persons facing non-bailable warrants in the state, a copy of which should be given to political parties.
It would be easier to ascertain how many political leaders in the state were facing non-bailable warrants from such a list, Sinha said.
