Chennai: Widespread rains are likely to occur over coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry in the next two days with yesterday's trough of low pressure persisting today (Nov 11, 2005).

In the wake of the trough, rains or thundershowers were likely over most places in coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry over the next 48 hours beginning at 8.30 AM this morning, local weather office said.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rains were also likely during the same period.

Rains were also likely at a few places over interior Tamil Nadu, it said.

Heavy rains had lashed several parts of the state since Saturday had had only subsided in the last two days.

The rains of have brought abundant inflows into the four reservoirs feeding the metropolis.

Official sources said as on date the combined water level in these four reservoirs stood at 327.30 feet (8231 Mcft) against its full capacity of 340.1 feet (11,057 Mcft).
