Monica Bedi, the underworld don Abu Salem's girlfriend, was today (Nov 12, 2005) produced before the special CBI court here and remanded to judicial custody till November 25 in connection with passport forgery case.
Amid high drama and tight security, Bedi, extradited from Portugal yesterday along with the gangster, was produced at the residence of special court Judge C V Subrahmanyam who remanded her to judicial custody.
Soon after the court order, the former Bollywood starlet was shifted to Chanchalguda jail in the city.
The CBI, which brought Bedi from Mumbai in an Indian Airlines flight last night, sought five-day custody for interrogating her.
The judge posted the CBI petition for hearing on November 15. He also permitted the defence lawyers to meet Bedi at the prison.
After meeting Bedi at the jail's women's wing, her advocate Shabana Shah said a bail petition would be moved on November 15.
Earlier, tight security arrangements were made at CBI office at Koti area where she spent the night. She was grilled for several hours at the CBI office before being produced before the Judge.
Bedi, who had secured passport in 2001 under fictitious name and address, has been booked under various sections of IPC, PC Act and Passport Act.
