Bombay High Court to hear Thackeray's plea tomorrow Sunday, November 13 2005 12:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
The Bombay High Court would tomorrow (Nov 14, 2005) hear Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's plea of transfer, from a Nasik court to Mumbai court, of defamation case filed against him by senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal.
The court on October 27 had accepted Thackeray's statement to pay a cost of Rs 5000 to Bhujbal for seeking adjournment of the case after the respondent asked the court
to not to adjourn the matter without imposing a cost on the applicant.
Hearing the plea, Justice Abhay Oka had adjourned the matter after Thackeray's lawyer accepting to pay Rs 5000 as the cost to Bhujbal.
Bhujbal's lawyer had opposed the adjournment sought by Thackeray and urged for a nominal fine for the purpose.
Opposing the plea of Thackeray, Bhujbal's lawyer had said he was prepared to appear for hearing in the Nasik court and there was no need of transferring the case to Mumbai court.
Thackeray's lawyer argued that Bhujbal's stand should not be entertained since the NCP leader has not attended the proceedings in the last 36 hearings of the case in Nasik
court.
