Salem's links with film producers under scanner Sunday, November 13 2005 14:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Mumbai police have prepared a list of film producers suspected to have close links with extradited gangster Abu Salem, sources said.
Abu Salem's involvement in film financing and distribution will be a major area on which the CBI, intelligence agencies and Mumbai police are likely to focus during interrogation in the coming days, sources said.
"Of course, this will be one of the areas where we will be questioning Salem in the coming days," CBI sources said.
From the early 90s till his arrest in 2002, Abu Salem had reigned terror in Bollywood with extortion killings and intimidation to film personalities and producers.
Intelligence sources said, while Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan and other underworld dons had links with the Bollywood, it was only Salem who thrived on Bollywood through extortion and later through film investment.
"We also suspect that Salem was into film business and we will deal with the subject as and when required," DCP Dhananjay Kamalakar of Mumbai crime branch told sources here, today (Nov 13, 2005).
Some of these film personalities may also be questioned to corroborate information that comes out during Salem's interrogation, but said that it would be too premature to name these personalities, the sources said.
