Centre rushes paramilitary to Jehanabad: Jaiswal Monday, November 14 2005 14:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal today (November 14, 2005) said that additional central paramilitary forces had been rushed to Jehanabad and the situation there was now under control.
"The situation is now under control," Jaiswal said adding that paramilitary forces from nearby areas have been rushed to Jehanabad, where naxalites had in a daring attack on the district jail freed one of their popular leaders and killed a leader of Ranvir Sena, an outlawed upper caste militant organisation.
Five persons died in the attack, after which some 341 prisoners were reported missing from the jail.
"The district authorities have asked for 20 more battalions which we hope to provide soon," the minister said acknowledging that there were only eight to ten men at the
prison when the CPI-Maoists stormed it last night.
"The main reason is that almost the entire force guarding the jail had been deployed for poll duty," he said.
