Death toll in last night's (Nov 13, 2005) naxalites daring attack in Jehanabad today (Nov 14, 2005) went up to four with the recovery of the body of a youth while a wounded ultra was arrested as the state sought 25 additional companies of central para-military forces from the Centre to step up the offensive against the banned Communist Party of India - Maoist (CPI-M), officials said.
Official sources said the body of the youth was found near the police lines and a wounded naxalite identified as Manoj Kandu was arrested.
Kandu, who was believed to have received injuries in a series of bomb blasts that ripped through this south Bihar town, has been rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital in a serious condition.
Meanwhile, Jehanabad district magistrate Rana Avadhesh was manhandled by a crowd of angry relatives of inmates of the jail this morning when he went there to take stock of the situation. Thousands of anxious relatives of the inmates who are traceless have thronged the jail premises whose main gates were open till a few hours ago.
However, the entrance has been closed after forcing the slogan-shouting crowd out, sources said.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Secretary G S Kang has sent a report to the Union Home Ministry on the attack and sought 25 additional companies of CPMF as 600 odd companies of the central forces already present are engaged in conduct of ongoing assembly elections.
