Field Marshal Manekshaw discharged from hospital

New Delhi: Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the hero of the Bangladesh war, has been discharged from the Army Research and Referral hospital where he was admitted with breathing problem.

The 92-year-old Field Marshal, a veteran of 2nd World War's Burma campaign, "has been discharged in a stable condition," Major General O P Mathew Commandant of the hospital said here.

The sole surviving Field marshal in the Indian Army was flown in here from his home in Coonor in Tamil Nadu on Nov 7 following breathing difficulties.

He has shifted to his daughter's place in the capital to spend time with his grandchildren for a week, before he is given a final check-up to allow him to go home to Tamil Nadu.
