Abu Salem is nostalgic about Mumbai, family: CBI Monday, November 14 2005 19:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Extradited gangster Abu Salem, who has been long away hiding in various countries, gets nostalgic about Mumbai and his family members during interrogation, CBI sources said here today (Nov 14, 2005).
"It's natural when you are away from home and family for that much long," CBI officials interrogating Salem told sources.
Salem, who has been on the run since 1993 bomb blasts, was reportedly nostalgic when he landed at Mumbai airport in the early hours of Friday, CBI sources said adding he gets emotional at the mention of his family members during the course of interrogation.
"He recalls memories of his father, who was an advocate back in Sarai Meer in Azamgarh district of UP, and how he dropped out of school after 9th standard to make a fortune at Mumbai," the sources said.
"Salem's eyes get wet when there is a mention of his 8-year-old son from his first marriage, who now stays in the US", sources said. Salem has not met him for years but could not do so since he was arrested in 2002 and was on the run before that, they added.
The sources said that despite being on the run, Salem has maintained good health and his medical examination has shown that he does not suffer from any kind of ailment.
"He is being offered regular food and has himself not made any demand for any particular choice of food," they said.
