Fifth LoC crossing point opened for earthquake relief Wednesday, November 16 2005 16:15 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Silikote (LoC): :
India and Pakistan today (Nov 16, 2005) opened the fifth and final relief point along the Line of Control (LoC) here to facilitate movement of quake-relief material for the affected families in both parts of Kashmir.
The relief point connecting this forward village in Uri sector of Kashmir valley with Haji Peer area of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was opened in the afternoon paving the way for exchange of relief material between the two countries.
The relief point was made operational around 1230 hours with the authorities on both sides meeting and devising a plan to exchange relief material.
The area has been de-mined to ensure smooth passage of relief material.
As in the case of other points opened across the LoC over the past one week, porters carried the material as the crossing is not motorable due to damage to infrastructure following the October 8 killer earthquake.
While the first point at Chakan da Bagh was opened on November 7, Kaman Post in Uri was made operational two days after. On November 12, the Teetwal crossing in Tangdhar sector was opened while the fourth crossing point in Mendhar sector of Poonch district became operative from November 14.
