India, Russia should deter Iran from going nuclear Wednesday, November 16 2005 14:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Warning that a nuclear Iran could spell danger for the world, former Israeli Premier Ehud Barak today (Nov 16, 2005) said India, China and Russia must dissuade Tehran from going nuclear.
"There cannot be a solution to the Iran issue without involving India and Russia and the backing of China," Barak said addressing the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit here.
Apparently referring to the November 24 meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency over referring the case of Iran to the UN Security Council, Barak said "I know there is a considerable debate going on in this country."
"Iran is determined to fight the whole world and go ahead with its military nuclear programme," said Israeli leader whose country Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad
wants to be 'wiped off the world map.
"I do not see an easy way to stop Iran," he observed.
Barak, a former chief of the Israeli Army said, "World terror is still alive and kicking and ready to spread death among innocent people" and leaders have to adopt a more
inclusive approach to tackle the menace.
"It (fight against terror) is a marathon and not a sprint, we will need not four or five years but probably half-a-generation to find a solution to it," Barak said.
