Jehanabad: Probe panel to start work from tomorrow

Jehanabad: The panel constituted by the Bihar government to probe Sunday night's naxalite attack in Jehanabad town will begin inquiry from tomorrow (Nov 16, 2005).

The two-member probe panel comprising Commissioner-cum Secretary of Water Resources department V Jaishanker and IGP (Railways) A C Verma are scheduled to visit Jehanabad tomorrow to gather information about the situation before and after the 'unprecendented' naxalite attack, official sources said today.

The probe team will also inquire into the police lathicharge on mediapersons at Jehanabad on Monday as well yesterday, they said.

A large number of mediapersons, who were covering the incident at Jehanabad, were injured in the lathicharge on both the days.

Besides, going into the details of the situation before and after the attack, the inquiry team will also ascertain the role of district officials in meeting the situation, the sources said.

Governor Buta Singh had indicated yesterday that based on the report of the probe more heads might roll for failure of officials to prevent the attack despite prior intelligence inputs about the naxal movements in the area.

Meanwhile, life returned to normal in Jehanabad town with shops, markets open,

Rapid Action Force personnel staged a flag march in the town to instill confidence in the citizens.
